Star or lunar mansion
Kishuku
箕宿
A lunar mansion listed as one of the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions (nijūhasshuku). The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions are an old astronomical division that tracks near which stars the moon appears. Here we introduce the form in which that division is expressed as a Buddhist deity.
This introduction is based on materials from Shōhōin (Tobi Fudō). It is summarized within the scope of the beliefs and traditions those materials convey, and does not present explanations or customs common to all schools, shrines, and temples.

Twenty-eight star divisions for reading the moon's course
The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions are an old astronomical division that tracks near which stars the moon appears. They are arranged seven each in four groups — east, north, west and south — and linked with the Azure Dragon (Seiryū), the Black Tortoise (Genbu), the White Tiger (Byakko) and the Vermilion Bird (Suzaku). The way of dividing differs from the twelve houses (jūnikyū), which divide the path of the sun into twelve.

Faith in the stars, remaining in calendars and images
The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions have also been connected with judging good and bad fortune in the calendar and with faith in which the stars are worshipped. Shōhōin notes that the form of each mansion is not fixed, and publishes images based on the Butsuzō Zui. This site introduces them as historical calendar notes and faith, and does not treat them as determining whether today's actions are auspicious or inauspicious.
