History and things to know

According to the official guide, the site has long been called “Akaune,” and the shrine's name is said to come from this place name. Until around the Bunka and Bunsei eras there was no shrine building, only a stone platform, and it is surmised that the name “Akone Yashiro” came about between the Edo and Meiji periods. Within its grounds are also Toyokawa Akone Inari Jinja and a Tenjin Sha.
