History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it was founded in Daidō 1 (806) by inviting a divided spirit of Aso Jinja, and the Sagara clan, who came down to the area in the Kamakura period, worshipped it as their clan kami. The present main sanctuary, corridor, offering hall, worship hall and two-story gate were built over four years from Keichō 15 (1610), and they were the first thatched shrine or temple buildings to be designated National Treasures.

Introduced by this site, based on materials from the shrine or temple and public bodies.
