Enshrined kami: Sugawara no Michizane

History and things to know

According to the official guide, it is said to have been founded by inviting a divided spirit of Anrakuji Tenmangū, the predecessor of Dazaifu Tenmangū, and it is described as having been protected for several hundred years as the guardian shrine of the area. At the autumn annual festival and on other occasions, yabusame is offered; as a rite of shooting at targets from a galloping horse, it has been handed down as an event of prayer for abundant harvests and for good health and freedom from illness.
