History and things to know

According to temple tradition, it began when it was built within the secondary residence of the Aoyama family on the death of the senior councillor (rōjū) Aoyama Yukinari in Kan'ei 20 (1643), and the temple name comes from the Buddhist names of Yukinari and his concubine. Since then it has been the family temple of the Aoyama family, enshrining successive heads of the family, and it is also said to be the origin of the place name Aoyama. The present main hall building was dedicated in Heisei 16 (2004).
