History and things to know

According to the temple's guide, it was opened in Asakusa Morita-chō in Genna 6 by the priest 梵誉貞存, and moved to Oshiage Village in Honjo after the great fire of Kanbun 8. Having lost its halls in the Great Kantō Earthquake, it moved to its present location in Mizue, and the temple relates that its principal image, the kotsubutsu, was made from the remains of the earthquake victims as a memorial for the first anniversary of their deaths.
