History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it began in the Ōei era when 師親, Bitchū no Kami and lord of Katakura Castle, invited the spirit of Hikawa Jinja, the Ichinomiya of Musashi Province. It was rebuilt in Kanbun 2 and became the chief tutelary shrine of Takao, and the lion dance offered at its annual festival is designated an intangible folk cultural property of Hachiōji City.
