History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it began when, after the death of Nichiren Shōnin, Ikegami Munenaka donated his own residence to make it a temple. On the grounds stands the “Go-rinjū no Ma,” built on the site of the room where Nichiren Shōnin spent his last moments. The present main hall was extensively rebuilt in Shōwa 56 (1981) to commemorate the 700th memorial of his death.
