History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, Takeminakatatomi no Mikoto stopped in this land on his way to Suwa and offered rice gruel to the two great kami, and this story is said to be carried on in the rite called the Okomori Matsuri. The shrine's guide says that in Daidō 1 (806) sustenance households were donated and that in the Engi era it was ranked as a Myōjin Taisha; from the Sengoku period onward it was revered by the Sanada clan and successive lords of Ueda Castle. The inner hall of the main sanctuary has no floorboards, and the earth itself is worshipped as the sacred body.
