History and things to know

According to the official guide, it is recorded in the Jinmyōchō of the Engishiki as a Myōjin Taisha of Oe District in Awa Province, and shrine records say that Minamoto no Yoshitsune dedicated a sword at the time of the Battle of Yashima. From the medieval period onward its location became unknown and disputes continued, but in Meiji 18 the present site was fixed as the shrine grounds, and the ceremony of moving the kami was held in Meiji 20. After the buildings were lost in the war, the main sanctuary was rebuilt in Shōwa 28 and the worship hall in Shōwa 43.
