History and things to know

According to the guide of the Mie Prefecture Jinjachō, it is said to have begun as Iso no Miya, at the time when Yamatohime no Mikoto traveled about carrying Amaterasu Ōmikami, and its name appears in the Kōtai Jingū Gishikichō and the Engishiki Jinmyōchō. Later, because its former site collapsed in a flood of the Miya River, it moved to its present location, and in Meiji 41 it enshrined together with it the shrines within its grounds and others.
