History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, Ame no Hiboko no Mikoto opened up the rocky hills of Tajima, which had been a muddy sea, let the muddy waters flow out into the Sea of Japan, and created the rich Tajima Plain. The present buildings were rebuilt in Taishō 3, with a three-bay nagare-zukuri main sanctuary and a vermilion-lacquered eight-legged gate, and a forbidden area (kinsokuchi) remains in the northeast corner of the precincts.
