History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it was opened in Bunmei 18 (1486) by the monk 寂照; originally a Tendai temple, it was burned in Nobunaga's war fires. In the Kanbun era the great priest 広誉可厭 put the main hall and other buildings in order as a nenbutsu practice hall, named it Shōjōzan Nison-in Jūraku-ji, and it became a branch temple of Chion-in of the Jōdo sect.
