History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, in Genna 6 (1620) Ogasawara Tadamasa, lord of Akashi Castle, revered Hitomaro as a sage of poetry and enshrined him at this place, with which Hitomaro had deep ties. In connection with the 18th day of the 3rd month of the old calendar, said to be the anniversary of Hitomaro's death, a festival in which the portable shrine (mikoshi) is carried out is now held on the second Sunday of April.
