History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it originates from Hikoitsuse no Mikoto, who was wounded and died during the pacification of Yamato and was buried at Kamayama, and it is listed in the Jinmyōchō of the Engishiki as Kamayama Jinja of Nagusa District in Kii Province. It lost its buildings and treasures in the war of Tenshō 13, but Tokugawa Yorinobu rebuilt it in Kanbun 9.
