Enshrined kami: Emperor Jinmu and Empress Himetataraisuzuhime

History and things to know

According to the official guide, it is handed down that Emperor Jinmu advanced east from Hyūga, pacified the land and ascended the throne at the Kashihara-no-miya palace southeast of Mt. Unebi. In the Meiji period, in response to a petition by private supporters, Emperor Meiji decided to found the shrine, and the kami were enshrined on April 2, Meiji 23 (1890). The main sanctuary is the Kashikodokoro of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and the worship hall is the Shinkaden, both granted by the emperor.
