History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, in the ninth year of Emperor Chūai the Kego Ōkami appeared at Fukuzaki, and in gratitude for protecting Empress Jingū's fleet they were enshrined on Fukuzakiyama. When Kuroda Nagamasa built Fukuoka Castle in Keichō 6 (1601), the kami were temporarily enshrined together with another shrine, and in Keichō 13 they were installed at the present site in Tenjin.
