History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, there was a hall on the bank of the Arakawa (the former Iruma River) by around Bunmei 2 (1470), and 宥鎮 Oshō, who had revived Shakujō-ji, became the founder of its revival. The principal image of Bishamonten is said to have been enshrined by Ōta Dōkan at Edo Castle to guard the north, and then donated in Bunmei 7. Though it lost its halls in the great flood of the Arakawa in Meireki 2, it has been restored again and again down to the present day.
