History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it was opened by Prince Shōtoku in Suiko 13 (605), and its name is said to come from the Prince's preaching his teachings in a forest. On its grounds remain the “Prince's Preaching Rock” and the sacred cave of the principal image, along with a shoin (study hall) from the early Edo period and a celebrated garden said to be the work of Kobori Enshū.
