History and things to know

According to temple tradition, the priest Arai Nissatsu, 73rd abbot of Minobusan Kuon-ji, and others resolved to open a place of Lotus practice on the site of the prison to console the people who had died in prison; they built a founder's hall in Meiji 15 and opened it the following year, Meiji 16. The halls burned in the Great Kantō Earthquake, but the sacred statue escaped harm, and the temple was rebuilt in Shōwa 4.
