History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it began when Myōhō-ji, a Shingon temple at Uchiyama, built a hermitage at 五十河, and its mountain name and temple name are said to be taken from “Ono Myōshō Daishi,” the posthumous Buddhist name of Ono no Komachi, who is said to have died here. After the main hall was destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt in Bunsei 6 (1823).
