History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it is said to have begun when Emperor Hanzei, on establishing the Shibagaki Palace at Matsubara, enshrined his father, Emperor Nintoku. It later moved to Uehonmachi, and after Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle it moved to its present site in the Tenshō era. It burned down completely in the Osaka air raids of Shōwa 20 and was rebuilt in Shōwa 49.
