History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began in Tenpō 6 (1835) when the domain lord Asano Narikata built shrine buildings to honor his ancestors and called it 二葉山御社. In Meiji 1 Nagamasa's wife was enshrined alongside, and it was renamed Nigitsu Jinja. The shrine buildings were lost in the atomic bombing of Shōwa 20, but after the war the main hall and worship hall were rebuilt, and the Kara-mon gate and torii were also restored.
