Enshrined kami: Nomi no Sukune and Gozu Tennō (the official website explains that Gozu Tennō was enshrined in the reign of Emperor Uda and that Nomi no Sukune no Mikoto was enshrined together with him in the early Meiji period)

History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began when an epidemic spread in the reign of Emperor Uda and, following a message that it would subside if Gozu Tennō were worshipped, an altar was set up on 久米路山. Later, when Takatsuki Castle was built, it received the reverence of successive castle lords as the guardian within the castle. In the early Meiji period, Nomi no Sukune no Mikoto was enshrined together with Gozu Tennō, and the shrine was renamed Nomi Jinja.
