History and things to know
According to the account of origins written by the chief priest, there is a tradition that its kami was invited in the Kyūan era, but the time of its founding is uncertain; it is also said that it came to be called Matsubara Daimyōjin because a Jūichimen Kannon that appeared from the sea in the Tenbun era was enshrined here. Revered by the Hōjō, Inaba and Ōkubo clans, it was regarded as the chief tutelary shrine of Odawara-juku, and it was renamed Matsubara Jinja in Meiji 2.
