History and things to know
According to the temple's guide, it began in the Hakuhō era when En no Gyōja found a spring welling up in Dorogawa and enshrined the Eight Great Dragon Kings beside it; later Shōbō Rigen Daishi restored it. In the great fire of Dorogawa in Shōwa 21 it lost most of the buildings in its grounds, but its buildings were restored in the Shōwa 30s.
