History and things to know
According to the shrine's history, Amatsuhikone no Mikoto was enshrined as the kami of the land and was revered for generations by the Hasegawa family, chief retainers of the Awa domain. About three hundred years ago, the Hasegawa family enshrined here the spirits of Omatsu, a village headman's daughter executed for a crime she did not commit, and her beloved cat Otama, and for this reason the shrine came to be called "Nekogami-san."
