Enshrined kami: Maeda Toshiie, Omatsu no Kata

History and things to know

According to the official guide, its prehistory is that after Toshiie's death, the second lord, Toshinaga, wary of the Tokugawa shogunate, founded Utatsu Hachimangū and secretly enshrined his father there. In Meiji 6 (1873), after the abolition of the domains, a campaign by former retainers of the domain led to buildings being erected on the site of the Kanaya Goten palace and to Toshiie being moved there, founding the shrine. The shrine gate was completed in Meiji 8, and in Heisei 10 Omatsu no Kata was enshrined together with him.
