History and things to know
According to the official guide, it is counted among the three great shrines of Izumo Province, and ancient rites continue there, such as the Jinzaisai, which preserves the oldest form in Izumo Province, and "Sada Shinnō", registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The three main sanctuaries are all in the taisha-zukuri style, with the north and south halls placed symmetrically on either side of the central hall; the south hall is regarded as unique, having a structure that is the reverse of the usual taisha-zukuri.
