History and things to know
According to the official guide, three temples, Hōzō-ji, Jissō-in and Jishō-ji, were merged in Meiji 42, and Sankō-ji was built on the upriver land where Jissō-in had stood. The records of the three predecessor temples were lost in fires and floods, but their cemeteries still remain at each of their former sites. Its head temple is Kyōō Gokoku-ji (Tō-ji) in Kyoto.
