History and things to know

Its old records were lost in the wars of the Odawara Hōjō clan, but according to its engi document, Yamato Takeru no Mikoto invited the kami to this place during his eastern expedition, and there is also an account that it was established in the 1st year of Emperor Richū. Behind the main hall is an iwakura (sacred rock) said to have appeared in a landslide on Mt. Akagi, and the place is thought to have been a site of worship since ancient times.
