History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it is said to have begun in Bunji 3 (1187) when Minamoto no Yoritomo received Ame no Hirinome no Mikoto from Sunosaki Myōjin in Awa Province. Ukanome no Mikoto and Susanoo no Mikoto were later enshrined as well, and traditions relate Tokugawa Ieyasu's visit on his way to Sekigahara and the rebuilding of the shrine buildings by the shogun's family. The present shrine building was rebuilt in Shōwa 39 (1964).
