History and things to know
According to the official guide, the great Kannon statue was completed in 1994 and opened to the public the following year, 1995. It was built with donations from parishioners and believers across the country, and the top floor inside the statue has a room enshrining the tooth relic and viewing windows. Events such as the spring and autumn equinox (higan) services and the Flower Festival (Hana Matsuri) continue to be held.
