History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began around the Tenshō era (1573–1585) when a spirit divided from Hikawa Jinja in Ōmiya was enshrined in a small shrine. It received the rank of Shō Ichii (Senior First Rank) in Kyōhō 2 (1717); in Meiji 40 eleven shrines in the town were merged into it, and in Meiji 42 its name was changed from Hikawa Jinja to Sōka Jinja.
