History and things to know

According to the temple's records, it is said to have been founded in Shōchū 2 (1325) by Nichiyū, a disciple of Nichiren Shōnin. The temple's tradition relates that in Bun'ei 1 Nichiren Shōnin was guided by a boy and stayed at this temple, and that when the boy was found to be a manifestation of Bishamonten, the temple changed from the Tendai school to the Nichiren school and took its present name, after Tamonten.
