History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it was originally 天性院, a Tendai sect lodging temple (shukubō); in Tenshō 10 (1582) 明堂文龍 Daioshō, fourth abbot of 徳翁寺, was invited and it was built as a Sōtō temple, and from then on it served as the bettō of Nagaya Tenmangū. In Bunka 14 (1817) it moved to its present site next to the Tenmangū, and after a fire in the Meiji era and the Great Kantō Earthquake its halls were rebuilt.
