History and things to know

According to the official origin account, it was founded in Meiji 39 (1906) when Kawasaki Shōzō, founder of the Kawasaki Dockyard, resolved to establish a Zen training hall and invited Takagi Ryūen, chief abbot of Tenryū-ji, as founding priest. The tahōtō pagoda in the grounds, built in the Bunmei era at Myōdani in Tarumi Ward, is the oldest in the prefecture, and it was moved to its present site in Shōwa 13 (1938).
