History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, because old documents were lost in two great fires, the details of its founding are not known, but it is said to be an ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki and revered as the central shrine of the Asake region. The shrine's name is said to come from the place where Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, having become a white bird, flew away. There have been cases of its buildings being made with timber from the old sanctuaries of Ise Jingū, and the present main sanctuary was built in Shōwa 4.
