History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, its forerunner was the Tendai temple 宝珠山岩生寺. That temple had fallen into disuse, and in Tenshō 10 (1582) 學應憲初 Oshō of 向川寺 was invited as founding priest and it became a Sōtō temple. A Yakushi Nyorai said, in the tradition of the earlier temple, to have been carved by Jikaku Daishi is still enshrined today.
