History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it began in Einin 5 (1297) when Togashi Yoshichika of Kaga welcomed the divine spirit from Kitano Tenmangū in Kyoto to a site near Kenroku-en. It became a place of prayer for the Maeda family of the Kaga domain and is also said to have been the foremost of the Kanazawa Five Shrines that protected the castle. In the Kan'ei era it moved to its present site, called Tsubakiharayama.
