History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, Toyotamahime no Mikoto, the daughter of the sea kami who married Yamasachihiko, came to this place to give birth, and the child was born while a birthing hut was being built in the sacred cave; that child is the chief enshrined kami. The cave surrounding the shrine buildings is a sacred place said to be the site of the chief kami's birthing hut. The main sanctuary is a prefecture-designated building, and the surrounding "Udo" is designated a Place of Scenic Beauty of the nation.
