Enshrined kami: Sugawara no Michizane
History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it began in the mid-Heian period when a family of Abe no Seimei's clan moved to this area and, thinking of the plight of Michizane, who had likewise left the capital, enshrined his divine spirit. It is said that because of flooding of the Yada River, the shrine moved from its original site to its present location in the Edo period.
