Enshrined kami: Furutama no Mikoto

History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, its founding date is not certain, but because its name appears in the Engishiki and the Shinsen Shōjiroku records the Yagi no Miyatsuko as descendants of Furutama no Mikoto, it is thought to have begun when the Yagi family, who governed this land, enshrined their ancestral kami. In Meiji 41–42 the tutelary kami of the villages of Yagi-gō were enshrined together here and it became the chief tutelary shrine of the district, and in Heisei 24 its buildings were rebuilt.
