History and things to know

According to the shrine's history, it is said to have begun in Meiji 4 (1871) when Yamauchi Toyonori, the last lord of the domain, set up a shrine building to enshrine the ancestral spirits on land that had been the otabisho (resting place for the kami during festivals) of Fujinami Jinja. In Shōwa 9 a shrine building honoring the achievements of Toyoshige and Toyonori was completed. After burning in the war it was rebuilt, and having merged with Fujinami Jinja, it enshrines together the successive lords, beginning with the domain founder Kazutoyo and his wife.
