Enshrined kami: Ichikishimahime no Mikoto (Takeshima Benzaiten)

History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it was founded in Yōwa 1 (1181), and it is said to have begun when Fujiwara no Toshinari, then governor of Mikawa, welcomed the Benzaiten of Chikubushima in Ōmi to this island, which resembles Chikubushima. It has deep ties with the Tokugawa family, and in Kyōhō 20 (1735) it received the divine title “Yaotomi no Kami.” Takeshima is a national Natural Monument.
