Sacred statue: Minamoto no Kurō Hōgan Yoshitsune
History and things to know
According to the official guide, it is said to have originated around Kansei 10 (1798), when Kondō Jūzō and others made an inspection tour, when a small shrine was built on top of the cliff at Hayopira and a wooden statue of Yoshitsune made in Edo was placed in it. The shrine was repeatedly washed away or collapsed and was rebuilt; a shrine building was completed in Taishō 9, and in Shōwa 36 the statue was moved to the present shrine building.
