Enshrined kami: Yamato Takeru no Mikoto
History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, in the reign of Emperor Kinmei, when an epidemic spread in the village of Zama, an old man dressed in white taught the people to use the spring water and the sickness subsided, and its origin is said to be the people's enshrining of Izuna Gongen. It was renamed Zama Jinja in Meiji 9, and when it became a village shrine its enshrined kami was changed to Yamato Takeru no Mikoto.
