English rendering

Feel compassion for others’ misfortune and rejoice in their goodness. Help those in urgent need and rescue those in danger. Regard another’s gain as your own gain and another’s loss as your own loss. Do not expose another’s shortcomings or boast of your strengths. Restrain evil and bring forward good; give others more and take less. Bear insult without resentment and receive favor with humility. Give kindness without demanding repayment, and do not regret what you have given.

Reading note from this site

Compassion is compatible with protecting yourself. The words about insult do not impose a duty to endure violence or harassment; seeking help and distance remains possible.
