Taishang Ganying Pian 07: Warnings against deceit and arrogance
English rendering of the Japanese reader’s section 07. The 24 divisions are this site’s editorial divisions, not original chapters.
English rendering
To act against justice and reason is to commit faults such as these: treating wrongdoing as a skill, inflicting cruel harm without concern, secretly injuring good people, and secretly scorning ruler or parents. Disrespecting teachers, betraying those one serves, deceiving the uninformed and slandering fellow students. Making false accusations, practicing deceit, exposing relatives’ failings to attack them. Being forceful and unkind, violent and self-willed; judging right and wrong incorrectly and choosing allegiances against reason.
Reading note from this site
Sections 7–21 list actions the original condemns and describe their consequences. They preserve historical values, rather than creating a modern legal or moral code.
