History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, when 大原五郎太夫安綱, a swordsmith of Hōki Province, was forging a sword, a kami appeared and struck the alternating hammer blows (aizuchi) with him, and so the kami was enshrined here. According to the official guide, this is the place where Yasutsuna and the Inari kami used the water of Yama-no-i to make the famous swords “Higekiri” and “Hizamaru.”
